The Society and Urban Form Lab (SURF) of the University of Cyprus, and the Ministry of Communications, Transport, and the Department Public Works are collaborating to bring together scientific research and decision-making in policy and planning contexts. Central to this collaboration is the application of Evidence-Based Design and Planning (EBDP)—a methodology that integrates empirical evidence into decision-making processes. By prioritizing the most reliable research findings, EBDP aims to optimize outcomes in the built environment, ensuring more informed and effective solutions.

This collaboration includes the following innovative projects:

• GOAL (Governmental Land Development Suitability Assessment): evaluates land suitability for government projects.
• DESIRE (Design Improvements Supporting Active Travel Around Secondary Schools): aims at promoting active travel for students.
• BRIMA (Bicycle Routes Infrastructure Mapping and Analysis): analyses and assesses the network of cycling infrastructure in urban and rural areas.
• ACCESS (Optimizing Accessibility to Citizen Services in Cyprus Through Evidence-Based Planning): evaluates and proposes strategies to enhance accessibility to essential citizens services.
