Cyprus Forum Cities 2025, Evidence-Based Urban Design Panel, 29 &30 April, Nicosia
What role can data, science, and dialogue play in shaping better cities?
At this year’s Cyprus Forum Cities, Andreas Papallas, researcher at the University of Cyprus and Twin2Expand team member, coordinated a timely panel discussion on how evidence-based urban design and planning can foster sustainable, inclusive, and resilient cities in Cyprus and beyond.
The conversation brought together leading voices from academia, local government, professional bodies, and international design practice:
– Neofytoula Angelidou, MUNICIPALITY OF LARNACA
– Lora Nicolaou, Frederick University
– Alkis Dikaios, Cyprus Architects Association
– Christos Passas, Zaha Hadid Architects
The panel explored:
-How data and research can inform policy and urban interventions
-The institutional gaps between knowledge and application
-The power of a strong public briefing and interactive dialogue
-Strategies for bridging academic research and real-world planning
Organised in collaboration with the SURF Lab at the University of Cyprus, this session exemplified the need for stronger, long-term collaboration between public authorities, professionals, and research institutions in creating data-informed cities.
Thank you to all speakers and attendees who contributed to a rich and thoughtful exchange. Let’s keep working towards a more evidence-based urban future.
